Not sure which canvas size to choose? This guide covers every size we print, which size fits over a sofa, a bed or a desk, and the difference between standard and gallery depth. Every piece arrives ready to hang.
What size canvas goes above a couch?
Choose a canvas about two thirds the width of your sofa. For a standard 84 inch sofa that is roughly 56 inches, so a 60x40 landscape canvas or a 40x60 portrait canvas is the natural pick. For a smaller loveseat, 30x40 or 40x30 works. Hang the bottom of the canvas 8 to 10 inches above the back of the sofa.
What size canvas goes above a bed?
Use the same two thirds rule against the width of the headboard. Above a queen bed (about 60 inches wide), a 40x30 or 60x40 landscape canvas fits well. Above a king, go with 60x40 or two 30x40 canvases side by side.
What size for a desk, hallway or shelf?
Above a desk or in an office, 18x24 or 24x18 sits at eye level without crowding the space. In a hallway or on a shelf, 12x16 or 16x12 is the right scale.

Standard depth or gallery depth?
Standard depth (0.75 inch) sits close to the wall, like a classic canvas print. Gallery depth (1.5 inch) stands further off the wall and gives the piece a heavier, more finished look from the side, which is why we recommend it for larger sizes and for canvases you will hang unframed. Customizable Amex pieces are made in gallery depth or framed only.
Framed or unframed?
Many pieces can be ordered with a black frame. A frame adds a clean border and makes the canvas stand out on a light wall; unframed gallery depth gives a modern, borderless look. Both arrive ready to hang.
How is each canvas made?
Every piece is printed with archival inks on 100% cotton canvas and stretched over solid wood bars. Saw tooth hanging hardware is already installed on the back, so all you need is a small nail.
Frequently asked questions
How high should I hang wall art?
Hang it so the center of the canvas is about 57 to 60 inches from the floor, roughly eye level. Above furniture, leave 8 to 10 inches between the furniture and the bottom of the canvas.
