What size counts as large canvas wall art?

How big should wall art be above a couch?

Use the two thirds rule: the canvas should be about two thirds the width of the couch.

One large canvas looks calmer and more expensive, and it is faster to hang: one piece, one level line. A gallery wall or a set feels more personal and lets you mix subjects. How do you hang a large canvas?

1. Tape a paper template the size of the canvas to the wall first and live with it for a day.
2. Set the height: 8 to 10 inches above the sofa or headboard, or with the center 57 to 60 inches from the floor on an empty wall.
3. Use two anchor points for anything 40x30 or bigger, so the canvas stays level, and use wall anchors rated for the weight if you cannot hit a stud.
4. Check the level after it is up. On a 60 inch canvas, even a small tilt is easy to see.
